Brighton Surgery Center currently has a full time position available for a certified Instrument Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

Disassembles complex instruments, supplies
and equipment; sorts and inspects for damage and reports needed repairs.
Selects the mode of decontamination best suited for items on hand. Assembles,
prepares and packages instrument trays, surgical instruments, and special
instruments. Determines the appropriate sterilization method and applies
corresponding chemical indicator. All team members are expected to be
knowledgeable and compliant with Brighton Surgery Center values of compassion,
dignity, excellence, integrity and teamwork.      
                                        
Responsibilities:

  • Disassembles complex instruments
         and equipment.
  • Removes soil, blood, tissue
         fragments and body fluids by wiping, soaking, rinsing, scrubbing and using
         ultrasonic or other mechanical methods, as applicable.
  • Reassembles equipment and other
         complex medical devices that require skill and careful positioning of
         parts to include vast surgical instrument trays. Wraps instruments as per
         Brighton Surgery Center’s policy and procedure.
  • Insures proper handling of all
         scopes, delicate micro and surgical instruments.
  • Operates sonic cleaners,
         instrument washers, and dryers. Also operates steam sterilizers and
         sterrad unit.
  • Checks all autoclave recording
         devices to insure proper operation.
  • Conserves supplies and materials
         by careful handling and strict adherence to specific quantities of
         supplies that are listed for each tray assembled.
  • Maintains and runs all biological
         tests needed for the steam sterilizers and sterrad unit as per the
         Brighton Surgery Center’s policies and procedures.

Education/ Experience:

Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited two-year college or
technical school or minimum of two years’ experience and/or training in a
hospital central sterile environment or equivalent combination of education and
experience.

 

Licensure,
Registry or Certification Required:

Certification
in Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSPDT) preferred.  Employees are required to obtain
certification as soon as they becoming eligible to take the certification exam.

Personal Qualifications:

Excellent physical and mental health (walking, standing, lifting, moving equipment required).
